Her father supported her passion and even commissioned her to write for him. She wrote her first three-volume series epic called The Mystery of Dead Man’s Island with an advance of $1 from her dad!
After leaving school, she worked in advertising and marketing for a legal publishing company. Eventually, she left the position of a marketing manager to start her own business called The Little ad Agency, which was unfortunately short-lived. She then worked as a freelance advertising copywriter. As she was a firm believer that real people didn’t get their novels published, she never wrote beyond first chapters of her novel during this time.
But she was soon proved wrong by her own younger sister Jaclyn Moriarty when Jaclyn’s first novel Feeling Sorry for Celia was published. Sibling rivalry struck her and drove her to complete her first book. Unfortunately, it was rejected by several publishers. She realized the need for a degree and enrolled for a Masters at Macquarie University. As a project while working on her Masters, she finished her second novel, Three Wishes which got published by Harper Perennial in 2004. The success of this novel gained her a vast international audience, and began her journey of literary success.

And what success has it been! Of the seven novels she has written till date, three have been on the New York Times Bestseller list, and two of these have held the Number One spot.
Liane Moriarty writes enticing and compelling stories which typically follow a secret or twist at the heart of the novel’s plot. Her books are part of a very particular niche genre, that is sometimes characterized as Chick Lit. The books, on the lighter side, revolve around the lives and problems of suburban women in an engaging manner.
Moriarty acquired the art of depicting colorful characters whose lives are braided in unexpected ways and creates a mirage of secrets and twists which takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride.
